Good news has been released from Sichuan University of Culture and Arts (SCUCA): City Movement Series, a watermark woodblock print series by Gao Chun, an outstanding alumna of the School of Fine Arts, has been successively selected for the 14th National Exhibition of Fine Arts, the National Excellent Fine Arts Exhibition of the 14th China Art Festival, and the 9th National Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition. Featuring exquisite artistic techniques and distinctive creative expression, the works have been permanently collected by the National Art Museum of China. With solid professional competence, Gao Chun has been awarded multiple national art honors, bringing great credit to her alma mater.

Behind this outstanding achievement lies Gao Chun’s years of dedicated exploration in printmaking, as well as the meticulous guidance and consistent support from Ms. Ma Liping of the School of Fine Arts. From her academic years to her professional career, Ms. Ma has provided sustained professional instruction and targeted advice, laying a solid foundation for Gao Chun’s artistic development. During her study at SCUCA, Gao Chun received systematic training in printmaking under the guidance of Ms. Ma. Ranging from mastering the engraving techniques of black-and-white woodcuts to refining thematic conception, Ms. Ma imparted her expertise comprehensively, helping Gao Chun consolidate her creative foundation and define her artistic orientation. With her instructor’s careful guidance, Gao Chun and Yuan Xinqi co-created the black-and-white woodcut work Tenon-and-Mortise Structure, which was selected for the 13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts. This represented a major breakthrough in her artistic career and laid a solid groundwork for her subsequent creations.

Since graduation, Gao Chun has continued to pursue artistic innovation. Ms. Ma has maintained close attention to her creative practice and offered targeted guidance in technical transformation, thematic innovation and work refinement, encouraging her to explore the expressive potential of watermark woodblock prints. Under the mentorship of her teacher, Gao Chun has focused on watermark woodblock creation, integrating personal artistic insight with traditional craftsmanship. Her works are characterized by delicate texture and sincere emotional expression, which have earned her admittance to multiple national exhibitions and the distinction of permanent collection by the National Art Museum of China, marking a new height in her artistic career.

This honor stands as a high recognition of Gao Chun’s artistic practice and a vivid reflection of the educational achievements of the School of Fine Arts at SCUCA. From black-and-white woodcuts to watermark prints, from campus creation to national art institutions, every step of Gao Chun’s progress embodies the dedicated guidance of her instructor and fully demonstrates the school’s profound capacity for art education and its educational philosophy of craftsmanship inheritance.
With instructors paving the way and artistic heritage carried forward, Gao Chun has stayed committed to her artistic path. Congratulations to Gao Chun on her remarkable accomplishments! May she continue to forge ahead in the art world, using gravers as brushes and woodblocks as media to create more outstanding works that integrate ideological depth and artistic appeal, and convey the unique charm of printmaking. SCUCA also encourages more students to follow the example of this distinguished alumna, devote themselves to artistic exploration, and achieve excellence in their artistic careers.
